Buying cakes online can be confusing with all the difference cake sizes, portions, and cake and cupcake sets. Here are Cakery NZ, we've prepared a guide that can help you decide which size that best suits your party. These indicative sizes are based on our Standard cake sizes that's available on our website. They are generally 3 layers (about 4-5inches) in height.
To help make that decision easier for you, there are 3 factors to consider:
1. How many people are attending the party?While this may seem straightforward if you have a guestlist, that’s not always the case, with people always inviting others along last-minute or potential gate crashers (let’s admit it, they’re good fun sometimes!) As a general rule of thumb, you’d always want to keep slightly more cake around than less so as to ensure everyone gets a sweet bite of out it or if you want to keep some of that yummy leftover to treat yourself the next day (typically, a cake that is refrigerated can last between 5 to 6 days).
From our experience in catering over the years, we recommend a 6-inch for parties between 6 to 10 people. If you are having a party with 12 to 18 people, an 8-inch cake would be great, and if you’re hosting for 25 to 30 people, a 10-inch cake will suit you and your guests best.

2. Who are the attendees?With the rise of creative and beautiful cakes of Instagram, we now have a variety of cake formats to offer guests at parties. Traditionally, a large cake would be what we’d expect at a party, regardless of the attendees. But nowadays, offering cupcakes as an alternative cake option to parties has become quite popular. What’s there not to love about cupcakes? It’s convenient and easy for guests to consume!
If your party is mostly for kids or a mixed crowd, and there’s about 10 people, we’d recommend going with a Small cake and mini cupcake set. For a party of between 15 to 22 people, we’d recommend a Medium cake with a mini cupcake set, and for a party of between 25 to 40 people, we’d recommend a Large cake and a mini cupcake set.

3. What would your guests/person you’re throwing the party for like?If you’re throwing a party, there’s a very high chance that you are familiar and know your guest profile.
